OneNotary platform allows two types of identity verification: Knowledge-Based Authentication and Biometric Verification.

Biometric verification uses advanced technology to verify that the signer matches their photo ID.

To utilize Biometric Verification, you need:

  1. A smartphone with a frontal camera
  2. One or two valid photo ID documents
For details, see Acceptable ID Documents for Biometric Identity Verification.

How it Works

If you are eligible for Biometric Identity Verification, you will see the option to select it during the identity verification process.

The system will automatically guide you through these steps:

  1. Follow the prompts and take a picture of your first photo ID.
  2. If you are a non-U.S. citizen, you will also be asked to take a picture of a second photo ID. This must be different from the first one.
  3. Then take a picture of yourself using the app.

Here is what the Biometric Identity Verification process looks like in the app:

Typical Errors

    • Poor photo quality (due to low light, shadows, or a dirty lens)
    • Technical problems (disabled camera, slow internet)
    • Damaged photo ID (chipped, cracked, covered with tape)
